Vocabularies
We welcome contributions to this section from translators and
from anyone else who has created his or her own glossary or glossaries.
As a starting point we have included the collection of vocabulary
built up by Berwyn Prys Jones over the years.

The Welsh-English list included in this collection serves as a
kind of unofficial appendix to Y Geiriadur Cymraeg Cyfoes – The
Dictionary of Modern Welsh.
The English-Welsh list, on the other hand, is an unofficial supplement
to Geiriadur yr Academy – The Welsh Academy English-Welsh
Dictionary (edited by Dr Bruce Griffiths and Dafydd Glyn Jones,
University of Wales Press, 1995) and stems from my work both at
the Welsh Office Translation Unit and latterly as a freelance translator.
Every effort has been made to delete entries already published
in the Academy Dictionary.
Each year, entries have been forwarded to Dr Bruce Griffiths,
as chief editor of the Academy Dictionary, in the hope that they
would one day prompt the production of a revised version of his
brainchild and masterpiece. So far, sadly, little progress has
been made in this respect.
By no means all these entries are my own translations. Some were,
for example, picked up from reading the subtitles provided by S4C
(the Welsh-language Fourth Channel in Wales) for Pobol y Cwm (the
popular Welsh-language soap opera) and other programmes because
I felt it was important that such translations should be noted
down before disappearing forever into the ether!
Should you wish to contribute to this collection or rectify any
spelling or typing errors, please forward your comments to berwyn@prysj.freeserve.co.uk
Should you wish to contribute your own vocabulary – no matter
in how raw a form - to this website, please forward it to swyddfa@cyfieithwyrcymru.org.uk
It could one day be of use to another translator!
