  • Statement regarding the decsion not to translate the Cofnod

Cymdeithas Cyfieithwyr Cymru, the Association of Welsh Translators and Interpreters, deplores the decision of the Assembly Commission to stop producing a fully bilingual transcript of plenary meetings of the Assembly.
"This decision to stop translating English speeches is a disapointment to us and we hope that this will not set a precedent for the public sector to cut back on the translation of important documents", said Geraint Wyn Parry, the Chief Executive of Cymdeithas Cyfieithwyr Cymru.
He added that the decision was also a heavy blow to the translation industry in north-west Wales which has been responsible for this work for a number of years and to the living of several professional translators.
